Beginning Quilting Series - For Adults

Note: You must have some prior experience using a sewing machine. Basic sewing machine skills are not covered in this class.

In this class you will learn the three basic principles of successful quilt making: accurate rotary cutting, precision piecing and perfect pressing. Your will also learn to baste, quilt, and bind your quilt. Once you have mastered these techniques, you will be on your way to making beautiful quilts. No sewing machine or materials required. All equipment/tools/materials will be provided.

Your class registration includes use of a Granary sewing machine and tools. Included is the reference book, Teach Me to Make My First Quilt by Pat Sloan. Also included is a kit for the class project (you may choose from several different colorways.)

Syllabus for the 3-day Class

Part 1:
 In part 1, you will learn the three basic principles of successful quilt making: accurate rotary cutting, precision piecing and perfect pressing. Once you have mastered these, you will be on your way to making beautiful quilts. You will be working with the fabrics in the kit and will be guided through the process of making a runner quilt top including the making of all the blocks and adding the borders. 

Part 2: Finish piecing your runner top. This session will cover several methods of basting with the focus on adhesive spray basting. We will also focus on straight line machine quilting using a walking foot. Basting, thread choices, and marking your quilt top will also be discussed. 

Part 3: In part 3, you will learn how to make straight-cut, double-fold binding (also known as French fold binding) basics including how to join the strips, miter the corners and join the ends for a flawless finish!
