Robin Ruth Mariner's Compass- Sunflower variation Class/Workshop with Audrey Vallen

Join Audrey to learn a variation on the traditional Mariner's compass made with the Robin Ruth mariner's compass ruler - a sunflower compass. The sunflower compass is distinguished by the little triangles around the center.  You may use either the Skinny or the Fat Robin Ruth Mariner's Compass rulers. 

If you've taken Audrey's original Mariner's Compass class, or are an intermediate sewer ready for your first foray into the world of compasses, this class is for you.  If you'd like to make the Robin Ruth Bullseye quilt in the Dutch Days batik fabric line arrving in November, then this class is definitely for you!  Note the Bullseye pattern uses the "fat" 60 degree compass ruler, so you may want to work with that ruler in class.

In this class your goal is to make an 14” Sunflower compass, with reverse applique center and (time permitting) an appliqued bullseye. The suggested finishing for the compass will be the "octacompass" which Audrey will describe and show examples of. This finishing step you will most likely finish outside of class. You’ll leave class feeling confident in using the ruler and excited about its design possibilities (and ready for Bullseye in the Dutch Days line!).

Both photos show the sunflower compasses appliqued to a petal or scallop background element, which is not how we will suggest finishing the compass in this class. Suggested finish for this class will be the "octacompass" option which turns the circular compass into a square block.
