I know it is so cliché but seriously, where did 2011 go??? It seems like just a few months ago “Sewfie” was delivered to the shop and we were planning our 10 year Anniversary Party. Sewfie has now been with us for 15 months and has quilted more than 300 quilts under Jody’s talented guidance, and I’ve had the Granary for more than 11 years! Where has the time gone?! I’ve always dreamed of a December where my shopping and wrapping was done by Thanksgiving, and I would have the whole month to sit and sew gifts for those special people on my list. Well this year that dream has partially come true--not that the shopping and wrapping is even close to being done, but I’ve got time to sit and sew since I am in a cast from my toes to my knee and am forced to keep my foot elevated. If you’ve ever taken a class from me, you’ll remember my rotary cutting safety speeches—how you aren’t allowed to cut yourself while you’re at the Granary, how I will fine you 25 cents if I find your rotary cutter open, and how if you drop your rotary cutter you should jump back immediately so it doesn’t hit your foot?? You probably know where this is going now … yes, I dropped a rotary cutter on my foot. I wasn’t even cutting with it at the time, and I swear it was closed when it was in my hand—Jody will attest. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but I severed two tendons in the top of my foot and had to have surgery to repair them. When I’m not sitting in the back with my foot up, I’m cruising around the shop on a cool knee scooter. Come on by and take it for a spin! In all seriousness, be careful when you are using your rotary cutter, always close it before you put it down, and for heaven’s sake, get out of the way if you drop it—even if you have shoes on! So what do you have to look forward to at the Granary in the first trimester of 2012? We have four new block of the month programs starting. Angela is continuing with the third installment of her “Changing Seasons” BOM program, Julie and I are beginning our third BOM together called “Paris in the Fall,” we are starting a new 1930’s row of the month program called “Garden Party” and in December Sarah started “Count on It.” See pages 2-3 for all the details. Better yet, visit our website where you can see pictures of these and all of our other class samples! I still feel so fortunate to get to do what I do every day! The Granary is an amazing place filled with friendly, talented, interesting and CARING people—customers and staff alike! Happy Holidays to all and thank you for being part of our Granary Family!
